ALTER TECHNOLGY has been awarded the contract for the development of the prototype of STUMM (Start-Up Monitoring Module) of IFMIF-DONES and the University of Granada.
IFMIF-DONES is a critical facility in the roadmap towards commercial fusion energy dedicated to the study of materials under extreme neutron irradiation for the future DEMO (fusion electrical energy plant). IFMIF-DONES will consist of a deuteron linear accelerator where the deuterons collide with a molten lithium target and generate a beam of neutron that will irradiate DEMO materials. IFMIF-DONES is under construction in Granada.
STUMM is a vessel containing neutron, gamma and temperature sensors that characterizes the neutron beam generated by the deuterons colliding with the lithium target. The goal of the project is to design, manufacture and test a prototype of STUMM that will allow derisking the future STUMM.
The project is led by Alter Technology with ESSB (European Spallation Source Bilbao) as mechanical engineering and Thune Eureka as manufacturers.
